UPHILL MANOR

Elmtree completed landscaping to the grounds of a former stately home in Uphill, Weston Super Mare.

The home was sadly damaged in a major blaze in 2016, during which much of the property was destroyed and not only by fire damage but also by a combination of smoke and water. The firefighters used 60,000 litres of water to put out the flames but the damage left behind was so detrimental that it was estimated to take three years to restore the building to its former glory.

The former stately home was taken over and run as a B&B before the fire. Needless to say itโ€™s has been vital to ensure that the repair works maintained the original features of the historic building.

Itโ€™s taken nearly two years to restore to its former glory and Elmtree were proudly been able to carry out landscaping works to help reinstate it.

We created a new Bredon gravel pathway, added Granite gravel to the courtyard area as well as installing traditional Yorkstone paving. It was highly important to reflect the high standards that Historic England and the local community recognise so we ensured turfing, planting of shrubs, importing and spreading topsoil was done to the highest quality. We were also able to repair the damage made to the driveway by resurfacing with tarmac.

Elmtree were delighted to be part of this restoration which will enable the historical building to continue its venture as a B&B while staying true to its heritage and original features.

SUCCESSFUL BALI REVETTING

We were re-vetted by BALI (British Association Landscape Industries) yesterday as part of their Quality Standard Review to ensure we still meet the standards required. Elmtree have been members of BALI since the mid-1980s, this is our trade and regulatory body.

The purpose of the Quality Standard is to ensure that members can demonstrate that they have sufficient Commitment, Systems, Skills, Resources and Controls in place to consistently meet relevant customer, legislative and regulatory requirements in a measured and professional manner.

We were pleased to pass with flying colours. Thanks to BALI and their vetting and Technical officer Richard Gardiner, itโ€™s always good to get external feedback.

CANNINGTON COURT, BRIDGWATER UPDATE

This project for Kier Construction, completed in May 2015, was the refurbishment of Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings to be used as the European Training Headquarters for EDF Energy.

The Walled Gardens of the existing grounds are famous, and visited by many people. So great emphasis was to be placed on the quality of the planting and other landscaping, this was the reason Kier approached Elmtree to undertake the works.

The project was very challenging due to the very limited space and tight timescales. Also, very high standards of safety were demanded by EDF and Kier.

It was a great success for Elmtree, and we had much praise from the Client for the way in which we handled the challenging timescales, as well as the quality of our work.

TAYLOR WIMPEY WICHELSTOWE, SWINDON

This show area landscaping was based on a design we did in-house. The brief was for the garden to be educational and to encourage wildlife into the area.

We incorporated features such as a bee home, log habitat pile, bird table, driftwood sculpture and a pond for amphibians. We selected a range of plants that would attract insects and butterflies.

We created information boards so local school children could read about the various features we had installed.
